MOUNT JACKDAW

- Change Like Minded -

Mount Jackdaw is an instrumental collective from Heinsberg Germany. In 2012, the trio met each other for the first time to make music together. They quickly developed their first song ideas. In this process, Mount Jackdaw never committed themselves to a specific genre and started in an unbiased way in every songwriting process. After their first song ideas, the songs initially remained only in their minds, until they finally decided in 2014 to produce accomplished songs from these ideas and unite them into one album. In doing so, they stepped deep into each song, composing, arranging, recording and mixing, so that they were an indispensable part of the Rursound Studio in 2014 and 2015. In countless hours of studio work, they created a unique sound. The songs are rich in contrasts and atmospheric in many ways, they are often structurally and stylistically unusual. Particularly striking is the interlocking of organic and electronic elements and the modification of sounds, sometimes a synthesizer is considered as an organic sound and sometimes a guitar sounds like a synthesized sound mixture.
In addition, each song has its own characteristics. The intro of the album "Le Presage" initially creates tension and breaks out in the end. By fading from electronic to acoustic instruments, the song reflects the electro-acoustic character of the entire album. "Enter the Forest to See the Sun" conveys a happy melancholy feeling. "Julius Caesium" falls out of line and breaks one rule after another. "Birds on Cages" is a tribute to freedom. The dark sound of "All these Ruins" symbolizes the dramatic of a collapse-endangered hall. In "Northern Blue" the closeness of the band members with the element water is noticeable. Finally, the album ends with "Changes" and with a balanced mix of orchestral sound and post-rock. With this variety of different sounds, it is difficult to put this album into a special box and the question of the genre cannot be answered so easily. The band members said that they only want to open the cabinet doors and let each listener decide themselves in which box which song will be sorted in.
After a few months in the studio, an individual picture gradually came into being for each song, which then had to be captured finally for the visual part of the album. For this purpose, they travelled a lot, waited for the right moment at the sunset, played with fire, went into ruins and made roadtrips to complete the project harmoniously.
